Let me, Marie Mayfield, welcome you to the “Saving Our Pets” website. Since you love dogs and cats and do not like having your taxpayer dollars spent to pay the salaries of those who kill millions of our helpless, innocent pets each year at the animals shelters, YOU HAVE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE. We need your help if we are to succeed in our mission. And what will surprise you and please you very much I am sure - WE WILL NOT BE ASKING YOU FOR MONEY!!
OUR MISSION - To implement the new and radical plan for pet overpopulation reduction that will prevent the deaths of the many millions of cats and dogs that are killed each year at the animal shelters of America.
A nice lovable little puppy like this one deservers to have a long and happy life as the companion of some kind and caring person with whom he can share a mutually rewarding relationship. Unfortunately, at the present time, this is the exception rather than the rule.
Your first reaction might be to scoff at the suggestion that the problem of pet overpopulation can actually be corrected. After all, many prestigious animal welfare organizations have been pursuing that objective for over a century already, without any appreciable results. In fact, this deplorable situation has existed for so long that it has become a more or less accepted part of our culture. The fact that it is no longer being brought to the attention of the public may even have led you to conclude that the problem has been corrected. But if the problem had been corrected, our elected officials would not still be budgeting larger amounts of our tax dollars each year to pay for animal control and periodically building larger animal shelters to contain the ever-increasing number of homeless animals. Though there are many who would prefer that you not know it, the truth is that pet overpopulation is, if anything, an even more serious problem than ever before.
A cute affectionate little kitten like this one should be able to look forward to a long and happy life of much petting and purring and playing. The reality is that there is a far greater likelihood that she will die at a very early age of a lethal injection, such as humans reserve for only the most heinous criminals of their own species.

The sad fact is that there is a great deal more to the problem of pet overpopulation than meets the eye. To grasp the difficult situation we face, there are two basic concepts that you will need to understand. (1) There really is a readily workable plan that, when implemented, will very quickly, easily, and inexpensively, turn all animal control shelters into “no kill” shelters. (You can quickly and easily learn all about this new and radical plan by clicking on “SPAY ONLY PROJECT” below). (2) The second concept is that getting this very easy plan implemented has proven to be incredibly challenging. Gaining an understanding as to why that is the case may be extremely difficult for you to come to terms with and, therefore, will require more of your time, as well.
When I first came up against this mysterious problem, I began to do some investigating. Over a period of time I gradually gained more and more insight into the very confounding and perplexing problems relating to animal welfare. I then decided to write a book in which I would attempt to share what I had learned with others who, like myself, were seeking clarification as to why nothing of substance had been done to prevent the deaths of the homeless cats and dogs. I named my book, “Waiting for the Dawn”. It is right here on this website at the bottom of this page and it is FREE. You can download it in PDF format and read it directly or print it out.
There is another FREE book on this website that I wrote after learning that there are still some animal shelters that sell their dogs and cats to the biomedical research laboratories, where they are subjected to the most horrible abuses imaginable. The title of that book is “Saving Our Pets from Vivisection”. That book is not pleasant reading, but those who want to involve themselves in trying to save those most unfortunate of all of our pets should definitely consider reading it.
But getting back to “Waiting for the Dawn”. This book has its peculiarities due to the fact that it was written over a period of twenty years. Statements made in the earlier chapters are often contradicted by statements made in the later chapters; for, with the passage of time, I was constantly gaining new insights and new revelations. For instance, I said in Chapter 3, “The majority of the dogs and cats that experience undue suffering and premature death are therefore victimized by man not so much deliberately as inadvertently - through omission rather than commission - for it is certainly in the interest of no one to have these particular animals born just to suffer and die.” Here I was gravely in error; for I was later to learn that the cats and dogs are exploited species every bit as much as are the livestock, the animals used for research, and the many other exploited species. And as you might expect, as in the case of the other exploited species, the problems confronting our companion animals are directly related to issues concerning money and politics. While it is true that the forces exerted by big money and powerful politicians are not easy to overcome, the important thing for you to know is that, if a large enough number of us cooperate and if we persevere,

I expect you will find it surprising and perhaps even shocking to learn that the people who exploit our homeless pets are none other than those very people who pretend to be their staunchest supporters and defenders. They are those very people who solicit money from us to do things to benefit the animals, when their true intention is to maintain the status quo indefinitely. In all likelihood, you are very skeptical about this and would prefer not to believe it. The best way I can convince you and the rest of the unsuspecting public that this is, indeed, the case is to share with you some of the experiences I have had which brought me to these conclusions. Unless the public at large can have a full understanding of what our pets have been up against ever since the advent of the animal welfare movement, there will be no hope for a satisfactory resolution to this tragic situation. The wanton destruction of our homeless pets will continue throughout the future just as it has throughout the past. That is why we must not fail in our very important mission.

Assuming that you would have neither the time nor inclination to read “Waiting for the Dawn” from cover to cover, I have excerpted passages from the book that I hope will clarify some of the issues. Because these will be taken out of their original context, I am providing page numbers at the end of each passage, which you can reference if you wish to gain a more in-depth understanding.
Those whom I designate as “anti-animal people” fall into numerous categories. So, to counter the skepticism you might have and to learn what the truth really is, please click on whichever classifications of people you may be skeptical about.
